因為behind和front的詞性不同。
英文的方位詞有兩種詞性，一種是介詞，一種是名詞。
介詞方位詞包括behind， above， under， in等等，在使用的時候直接加地點名詞。
名詞方位詞包括front， back， left， right等等，在使用的時候需要先添加介詞，然後才能加地點名詞
如：
1，by/beside the window
在窗户旁邊
(by和beside都是介詞指”在旁邊“，注意beside和besides區分，besides是副詞，指“此外”)
among flowers 在花叢中
（among是介詞，指”在…之中“）
between two man
在兩名男子中間
（between是介詞，指”在…中間“）
2，the teacher is in the front of the classroom 老師在教室前部
（in the front of指”在裏面的前部）
a boy sitting at the back of the classroom raised his hand
坐在教室後面的一個男孩舉手了
(back是名詞，at the back of指”在裏面的後部“)
behind， in front of
behind表示“在…後面”，而in front of表示“在…前面”。
比如：
The boy hid behind the door.孩子藏在門後。
There is a tall tree in front of the house.房子前面有棵很高的樹。
The broom is behind the door.掃帚在門背後。
The lawn is in front of the house.草坪在房前面。
in the front of表示“在…（裏面的）前部”。
比如：
We all sat in the front of the hall.我們都坐在會場前部。
She was in the front of garden.她在花園裏前部。
behind不要連介詞，front為什麼要用介詞
behind是表示位置的介詞，表示“在…的後面"。
in front of是一個完整的介詞短語，不可分開，與behind構成反義詞，即"在…的前面。
一般front前面不帶the，如果加了the，那意思是有區別的，比如:在公交車前面，如果説:in front of the bus(在公交車前面，車子外面的前面)，而如果説:in the front of the bus(在公交車前排，即車子內部靠前的位置)。
上面的behind與in front of表示位置的前後，但表示順序或時間的前後，需用介詞before在…之前，after在…之後，比如The judge stood before them.法官坐在他們前面。The boy went fishing after he finished the homework.小男孩完成作業後去釣魚了。
另外表示“…(時間)前"用副詞ago，相反的“…(時間)後”用副詞later，比如:
He joined the Party three years ago.他三年前入的黨。
