neither nor 是就近原則 根據名詞的單複決定 比如 neither students nor teacher 這時用單數 而neither students nor teachers 這時用複數
neither 和 nor 一起使用作並列連詞，格式為 neither ... nor ...， 意為“既不……也不……”，表示否定的情況適用於兩方面，連接兩個並列的成分
例如：
Neither my mother nor my father went to university.我媽媽和爸爸都沒上過大學。
They speak neither French nor German， but a strange mixture of the two.
他們既不説法語也不説德語，而是兩種語言奇怪的混合。
I neither know nor care what happened to him.我既不知道也不關心他發生了什麼事。
1、當連接的兩個並列主語都為單數形式，那麼謂語動詞用單數
例如：
Neither Mark nor Dawn is at the function.
馬克和道恩都不在宴會上。
Neither Dickens nor Thackeray was a panderer to the public taste.狄更斯和薩克雷都不是迎合大眾口味的人。
Neither Simon nor Gary does as they are told.
2、當連接的兩個並列主語中至少有一個是複數形式，那麼謂語動詞用複數
例如：
Neither the lawyer nor the detectives are able to follow the sequence of events.
律師和偵探都無法跟蹤事件的順序。
There were neither cakes nor ice-cream at the party.聚會上既沒有蛋糕也沒有冰淇淋。
Neither the firemen nor the policemen know him.消防隊員和警察都不認識他。
3、連接兩個並列主語時，謂語動詞采用“就近原則”，但並不是所有的語法慣例都遵循這個原則
例如：
Neither he nor I know what happened to the old man.我和他都不知道老人怎麼了。
neither nor 後可加單數也可以是複數。neither nor 用的是就近原則，謂語動詞的單複數取決於nor 後面名詞單複數，中文意思是“既不……也不……，……和……都不”
例如，因為新冠肺炎疫情的影響，老師和學生們都將暫時不要去學校。
For example， because of the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic， neither teachers or students are going to school for the time being.
的動詞遵循就近原則。就近原則也稱“鄰近原則”，即：謂語與靠近的名詞、代詞（有時不一定是主語）在“人稱、數”上一致。所以 nor後面的名詞的單複數來決定 be動詞，謂語動詞的單複數。但在非正式的情況下，也可依“意義一致原則”或嚴格地依“語法一致原則”。例如：
Neither shenor I were there (意義一致)
我和他當時都不在那兒。（非正式）
Neither shenor I was there .（就近一致）
我和他當時都不在那兒。（正式
