wildlife單數還是複數

wildlife n. 野生動植物

①wildlife 是一個不可數的集合名詞，且通常不連用冠詞用作主語時，謂語用單數可用 much， little 等修飾，但不用 many， few 修飾。

如：

The wood is a haven for wildlife. 這片樹林是野生生物的安樂窩。

There is much wildlife in the forests of Maine. 在緬因州的森林裏有很多野生動物。

Wildlife is fast disappearing from our countryside. 野生動物正從鄉間快速消失。

②但是，若特指（比如特指某一地區的“野生生物”）則可連用定冠詞。如：

The increasing use of pesticides threatens the wildlife of the area. 越來越多地使用殺蟲劑威脅到這個地區野生動植物的生存。

The human population in the region is expanding in inverse proportion to the wildlife. 這個地區的人口在膨脹，而野生生物的數量卻在減少。
